ENFRESDEIT
FableNº 57

Men and Zeus

They say the animals were fashioned first, and that God granted to one strength, to another speed, to another wings; but that man remained naked and said, "Me alone you have left without a gift." Zeus replied, "You take no notice of the gift I have given you, and yet you have received the greatest; for you have received reason, mighty among gods and men, mightier than the mighty, swifter than the swiftest." And then, recognising God's gift, the man went away, worshipping and giving thanks.

All people have been favoured by God, who gave them reason; but some are insensible to such a favour and prefer to envy the animals, which have neither feeling nor reason.
