An ant, pressed by thirst, had gone down to a spring and, carried off by the current, was drowning. A dove, on spotting her, broke a twig off a tree and threw it into the spring; the ant climbed onto it and was saved. Meanwhile a fowler came up with his limed twigs set to catch the dove. The ant, having noticed this, bit the fowler's foot, and he, under the sting of the pain, threw down his twigs and at once made the dove fly off.
