FableNº 336

The Ants and the Cicada

It was winter, and the ants were drying out their grain, which had got wet. A hungry cicada asked them for something to eat. The ants said, "Why didn't you store up food in the summer, as we did?" "I had no time," the cicada replied. "I was singing my sweet songs." And the ants laughed in her face: "Well then, if you sang in the summer, dance in the winter."
