The Ass and the Ass-Driver

An ass led by an ass-driver, after going a little way, left the smooth road and took across steep places. As he was about to fall into a precipice, the ass-driver, seizing him by the tail, tried to make him turn back; but as the ass pulled vigorously the other way, the ass-driver let go and said, "I concede you the victory: for it is a bad victory you win."

*Stubbornly insisting on victory may turn success into ruin.
