FableNº 251

The Bat and the Weasels

A bat fell to the ground and was caught by a weasel. Seeing herself about to be killed, she begged for her life. The weasel told her she could not let her go, for she was by nature an enemy of all birds. The bat replied that she was not a bird but a mouse, and by this means she got away. Later, having fallen a second time, she was caught by another weasel, and begged not to be eaten. When this one answered that she hated all mice, the bat declared that she was not a mouse but a bat, and was released this time too. And so, twice over, by changing her name, she escaped death.

We should not always stick to the same means, but remember that, by adapting to circumstances, we often escape danger.
