The misfortunes, too weak to stand alone, once drove the blessings up into the sky. From there the blessings asked Zeus how they ought to reach human beings. He told them never to come all together, but to visit one at a time. And so the misfortunes, who live close at hand, fall upon us constantly, while the blessings, who must come down from heaven, arrive only now and then.
