FableNº 294

The Child and the Raven

A woman consulted the diviners about her infant son. They predicted that he would be killed by a raven. Terrified by this prediction, she had a very large chest built and shut him up in it, to prevent his being killed by a raven; and every day, at set hours, she opened it and gave the child the food he needed. Now one day, when she had opened the chest and was putting the lid back, the child had rashly put his head out. As a result, the raven of the chest, coming down on the top of his head, killed him.

*No one escapes the destiny reserved for them.
