The Demigod

A man who had a demigod in his house used to offer it rich sacrifices. As he kept spending and consuming considerable sums in sacrifices, the demigod appeared to him at night and said, "Stop, my friend, squandering your goods; for if you spend everything and become poor, it is I you will blame for it."

Many blame the gods for misfortunes caused by their own folly.
