The Dog That Chased a Lion and the Fox

A hunting dog, on seeing a lion, had set off in pursuit of it. But the lion turned round and began to roar. Then the dog took fright and turned back. A fox saw him and said, "Poor fellow, you were chasing the lion, and you couldn't even stand its roar."

The presumptuous disparage the powerful until the powerful turn against them.
