The Hen and the Swallow

A hen, having found some serpent's eggs, set about brooding them carefully and, after warming them, hatched them. A swallow, who had seen her do this, said to her, "Fool that you are, why do you rear creatures that, once grown, will begin the course of their misdeeds with you first of all?"
