FableNº 107

The Kid and the Flute-Playing Wolf

A kid that had fallen behind the flock was being chased by a wolf. It turned round and said to him, "I know well, wolf, that I am destined to be your meal; but so that I don't die without honour, play the flute and make me dance." While the wolf played and the kid danced, the dogs, hearing the noise, ran up and gave chase to the wolf. Turning, he said to the kid, "It serves me right; for, being a butcher, it was not for me to play the flute-player."

So when we do something without regard to circumstances, we see even what we hold in our hands snatched away.
