FableNº 207

The Lion and the Wild Ass

The lion and the wild ass were hunting wild beasts, the lion using his strength, the wild ass the swiftness of his feet. When they had taken a certain number of animals, the lion divided the spoil and made three portions, which he laid out. "I'll take the first," he said, "as being first, since I am king; the second too, as an equal partner; and as for the third, that one will bring you bad luck, if you don't decide to clear off."

*We should measure our alliances against our own strength and avoid unequal partnerships.
