FableNº 59

The Man and the Lion Travelling Together

A lion was once travelling with a man. They were vying with each other in boasting, when on the road they came upon a stone slab showing a man strangling a lion. The man, pointing it out to the lion, said, "You see how we are stronger than you." The lion replied with a smile, "If lions knew how to carve, you would see many men under the lion's paw."

Many people boast in words of being brave and bold; but experience unmasks them and confounds them.
