FableNº 84

The Ploughman and Fortune

A ploughman, while digging, came upon a hoard of gold. So every day he crowned the Earth, convinced that it was to her he owed this favour. But Fortune appeared to him and said, "Why, my friend, do you credit the Earth with the gifts I have given you, meaning to enrich you? For if the times change and this gold passes into other hands, I am sure it is I, Fortune, you will then blame for it."
