FableNº 316

The Shepherd and His Sheep

A shepherd, having led his sheep into an oak wood, spotted a great oak laden with acorns; he spread his cloak underneath, then climbed up and shook down the fruit. The sheep, eating the acorns, also ate his cloak by mistake. The shepherd, having come down and seeing the mischief, cried out, "Wicked creatures, you give others wool to clothe themselves, and to me, who feed you, you have taken even my cloak."

So many people foolishly oblige those who are nothing to them, and behave shabbily towards their own kin.
