FableNº 20

The Two Cocks and the Eagle

Two cocks were fighting over the hens, and one put the other to flight. The beaten one withdrew into a thicket and hid, while the victor flew up, perched on a high wall, and crowed at the top of his voice. At once an eagle swooped and carried him off; and the cock hidden in the shadows had the hens to himself from then on.

Pride invites a fall, while the one who keeps low is spared.
