Dolphin
The dolphin is the sea's nobility, with a temper. At war with the whales, he refuses the gudgeon's mediation: better to fight forever than accept so small a peacemaker. He carries the shipwrecked ape kindly — until the ape lies about Piraeus, and he lets him drown. He honours truth and rank alike. His mercy has conditions.
