Stag

The stag admires the wrong half of himself. He praises his branching antlers and despises his thin legs — until the hunt comes, when the legs nearly save him and the antlers snag in the branches. Vanity fastens on show; usefulness goes unloved. In the thicket he learns which was which, too late. Aesop lets the antlers do the teaching.
