A man who had a Maltese dog and an ass was constantly playing with the dog. If he went to dine out, he brought it back some titbit, and, when the dog came up wagging its tail, he threw it to him. Jealous, the ass ran up to his master, and, beginning to caper, caught him with a kick. The master, in anger, had him led back with blows of a stick and tied to the manger.
