FableNº 234

The Bees and Zeus

The bees, grudging their honey to people, went to Zeus and begged him to give them the power to kill with a sting anyone who came near their cells. Zeus, indignant to see them so spiteful, condemned them to lose their sting whenever they struck someone with it, and to die afterwards.

*Spiteful those who consent to suffer themselves the harms they do.
