One day Hermes was driving all over the earth a chariot filled with lies, trickery, and deceit, and in each country he handed out a small portion of his load. But when he reached the country of the Arabs, the chariot, they say, suddenly broke down; and the Arabs, as if it were a precious cargo, plundered the contents of the chariot and did not let the god go on to other peoples.
The story uses this to claim, more than of any other people, that the Arabs are given to lies and deceit.
