The Doe and the Lion in the Cave

A doe pursued by hunters came to the mouth of a cave where a lion was. She went in to hide there; but she was caught by the lion, and, as he was killing her, she cried out, "Wretch that I am! In fleeing from men, I have thrown myself into the paws of a wild beast."

Fear of a lesser danger may drive us into a greater one.
