FableNº 154

The Gardener Watering Vegetables

A man stopped near a gardener who was watering his vegetables, asked him why wild vegetables were flourishing and vigorous, while the cultivated ones were puny and sickly. "It is because," replied the gardener, "the earth is for the one a mother, for the other a stepmother."

Children raised by a stepmother are not nourished as those who have their own mother.
