FableNº 232

The Lamp

A lamp, drunk with oil, throwing out a bright light, boasted of being more brilliant than the sun. But a gust of wind having whistled by, it went out at once. Someone lit it again and said to it, "Shine, lamp, and be quiet: the brightness of the stars never fades."

Do not let reputation or honour blind you, for acquired status is never truly ours.
