FableNº 177

The Man Bitten by a Dog

A man bitten by a dog was running everywhere, looking for someone to cure him. A passer-by told him that he had only to wipe the blood of his wound with a piece of bread and throw it to the dog that had bitten him. To which the wounded man replied, "But if I do that, I shall inevitably be bitten by all the dogs in town."

If you flatter people's wickedness, you spur them on to do still more harm.
