A man was preparing a dinner to entertain one of his friends and intimates. His dog invited another dog. "Friend," it said, "come and dine with me here." The guest arrived full of joy, and stopped to gaze at the great dinner, murmuring in its heart, "Oh, what an unexpected windfall for me! I'll gorge and stuff myself so full that I won't be hungry all tomorrow." While it was talking thus to itself, all the while wagging its tail, like a friend who trusts his friend, the cook, seeing it turn its tail this way and that, took it by the paws and suddenly flung it out of the window. And the dog went off yelping loudly. It met other dogs on the way; one of them asked it, "How did you dine, friend?" It replied, "From drinking so much I got drunk beyond measure, and I don't even know how I got out."
