FableNº 114

The Two Enemies

Two men who hated each other were sailing on the same ship; one had stationed himself at the stern and the other at the bow. A storm arose and the ship was about to sink, and the man at the stern asked the pilot which part of the ship would go under first. "The bow," said the pilot. "Then," said the man, "death holds nothing sad for me, if I am to see my enemy die before me."

Many people care nothing at all about the harm that comes to them, provided they see their enemies harmed before them.
