FableNº 224

The Wolf and the Heron

A wolf, having swallowed a bone, went about looking for someone to rid him of his trouble. He met a heron and asked her, for a fee, to remove the bone. The heron then lowered her head into the wolf's throat, drew out the bone, and claimed the agreed fee. "My friend," replied the wolf, "isn't it enough that you've drawn your head safe and sound out of a wolf's jaws? And now you want a fee as well?"

The most we can expect from wicked people's gratitude is that they do not add injustice to ingratitude.
