FableNº 227

The Wolf and the Lion

One day a wolf, having carried off a sheep from a flock, was taking it to his den. But a lion, finding himself in his path, snatched it from him. The wolf, keeping his distance, cried out to him, "You are unjust to take my property." The lion began to laugh and said, "You, of course, received it justly from a friend!"

When insatiable plunderers suffer a reverse, they often turn on one another.
