FableNº 219

The Wolf Proud of His Shadow and the Lion

A wolf was roaming one day in deserted places, at the hour when the sun was sinking towards its setting. Seeing his shadow stretched out long, he said, "I, afraid of the lion, with the size I have! A hundred feet long: is it not quite natural that I should become king of all the animals?" As he was giving himself up to pride, a powerful lion seized him and began to devour him. The wolf, changing his mind, cried out, "Presumption is a cause of misfortune to us."

*Presumption brings misfortune upon us.
