FableNº 220

The Wolf and the Goat

A wolf saw a goat grazing above a steep cave. Unable to get to her, he urged her to come down; for she might, he said, fall by mishap; besides, the meadow where he stood was better, for the grass there was all in flower. But the goat replied, "It is not for my sake that you call me to pasture, it is for your own, since you have nothing to eat."

So when scoundrels ply their wickedness among those who know them, they gain nothing by their machinations.
