When they saw the camel for the first time, people were afraid and, struck by its great size, fled. But when in time they had realised how gentle it was, they grew bold enough to approach it. Then, noticing little by little that the beast had no anger in it, they came to despise it so far as to put a bridle on it and give it to children to lead.
