Eagle

The eagle is the queen of birds, but no friend of oaths. She betrays the fox, her neighbour, and pays through her own nest. Struck by an arrow feathered with her own plumes, she recognizes her share in her ruin. She carries off lambs and teaches jackdaws fatal ambitions. Power, in Aesop, does not excuse betrayal.
