Ploughman

The ploughman is honest work with an unguarded heart. He warms a frozen serpent and is bitten; he prays to Heracles before pushing his own wheel. His dying vineyard teaches his sons that treasure is the digging itself. He stands for the labour that feeds everyone and trusts too easily. His field is where the fables test both toil and mercy.
